The Brahma was developed in the U.S. using breeds native to India. It is an extra large bird that will stick out among your flock, and in addition to its size is distinguished by its feathered feet. The Brahma is a gentle teddy bear that is quite huggable. There are three recognized heritage varieties: light, dark and buff. They are decent layers who produce 3 brown eggs per week. Because of their heavy feathering, Brahmas should be closely watched for heat-related problems during the hottest months.
