Barnevelders, affectionately known as “Barnies,” are a Dutch breed that lays a dark brown egg. The hens (double laced variety) have beautiful brown feathers that are double-laced in black and resemble the tip of an arrow. There are more than a dozen varieties of the Barnevelder however only the double laced partridge is recognized in the U.S. Other colors such as black, blue laced, white and silver are standards in Europe.
