The Wyandotte is named after a Native American tribe in the eastern part of North America. There are nearly 10 recognized varieties, all of which are known for their striking plumage and a roundish body. Many chicken owners opt for two or more varieties of the Wyandotte because they are so unusual in their feathering. The varieties recognized as heritage include black, blue, buff, Colombian, golden laced, partridge, silver laced, silver penciled and white.
