Some chickens are bred in a way that makes the females and males distinguishable from each other right from birth, making the job of “sexing” the bird easy. These are called “sex links.” A Sex Link cannot be called a breed because their offspring would not have their same characteristics; the chicks produced would be different from the parents. So, they are considered a “crossbreed” or “hybrid.” Sex-linked chickens are typically marketed under names such as Black Star, Black Sex-Link, Red Star, Red Sex-Link, Golden Comet, and Cinnamon Queen. Sex Links are typically excellent layers who produce 5 or more brown eggs weekly.
