Dorking
Purpose: dual purpose
Egg Production: 3 / wk
Egg Color: Cream
Origin: England
Heritage breed: Yes
The Dorking is one of the oldest known domesticated chicken breeds, possibly dating as far back as the Roman empire. The Dorking is popular because of its unusual foot (it has five toes) and cream-colored egg. It also has shorter legs than most breeds. It is not a high egg production breed, but is known for being exceptionally docile and therefore loved by many backyard chicken owners. The Dorking varieties recognized as heritage are the rose comb white, rose comb cuckoo, single comb colored, single comb cuckoo, single comb red, and single comb silver gray.
