The Delaware was developed in the 1940s with the goal of producing a meat bird that retains good egg production. For several years, the Delaware was the predominant broiler breed in a large part of the eastern United States. This breed has black feathers around the neck and on the tip of the tail but are otherwise white. The Delaware is a great choice if you want a good layer with the option of butchering your flock after a season of laying. Only the white variety is recognized as a standard.
