Like the Brahma, the Cochin is large and huggable. Its extremely docile nature is why so many people love the Cochin despite it being a below-average layer. It can serve as a meat bird, but with a buxom figure and feathered legs and feet is mostly viewed as “ornamental,” a breed to show or keep as an exotic pet. There are many varieties of the Cochin, with the barred, black, blue, brown, buff, golden laced, partridge, silver laced and white recognized in the U.S. as heritage.
